At the recent joint TITAN/Data4Food2030 conference, we had the pleasure of presenting our new online course, developed on the LearnWorlds platform, designed to make complex food system topics genuinely engaging for a broad audience of learners.
TITAN, a Horizon Europe project, is developing transparency solutions in the areas of food safety, authenticity, traceability, health, and sustainability, and our course was built to translate this cutting-edge research into accessible, up-to-date educational content. Staying true to the latest developments in food system transparency was a core priority throughout the development process.
To support learner engagement, the course incorporates Alex, a narrative character who accompanies participants through each module and helps frame the material as a coherent, story-driven journey. Alex is a food professional, who faces challenges and solves puzzles related to the topic throughout her working week. Beyond subject-specific knowledge, the course also integrates training in transferable skills, including teamwork and strategic thinking, reflecting the multidisciplinary approach needed to address real-world challenges in the food system. This structure highlights not only research outcomes themselves, but also the underlying approaches and collaborative processes behind them.
During the presentation, a short engaging brainstorming session took place among presenters and the audience. We discussed how to connect the wide range of topics and materials contributed by different organisations within a single, coherent course. The feedback we got is greatly appreciated and will be taken into account in the development of new educational materials.
The course is live now, with three of five modules already published, and the remaining two set to be released before the end of summer. Stay tuned for more!
