Edward Sliwinski, representative of the European Federation of Food Science and Technology (EFFoST), recently shared insights at the “Future of Food Safety & Quality” webinar organized by TechPalate Insights. The session focused on emerging technologies poised to transform food safety practices in 2025.
During his presentation, Sliwinski introduced two EU- funded projects: the TITAN Project and the CATALYSE Project. Both projects aim to advance food safety through innovative approaches and collaborations across the European food sector.
Edward highlighted several cutting-edge technologies and startups in food safety:
- New Analytical Methods: Companies like Unisensor, Spore.Bio, and Microbion are developing advanced tools for detecting contaminants and ensuring food quality.
- Mild Sterilization Techniques: Innovations from Lyras A/S and SANOVO TECHNOLOGY PROCESS – SonoSteam offer alternative methods to traditional sterilization, preserving food integrity while ensuring safety.
- Advanced Cleaning Solutions: Startups such as Invert Robotics, Watair GmbH, and KATMA CleanControl are introducing novel cleaning technologies to maintain hygiene standards in food processing environments.
- AI for Foresight: Agroknow and iComplai are leveraging artificial intelligence to predict and mitigate potential food safety risks.
- Digitalization Efforts: Companies like QAssurance and Bulkvision are streamlining food safety processes through digital platforms, enhancing traceability and compliance.
- Sensor Technologies: BlakBear and Keepit are developing sensors to monitor various parameters critical to food safety in real-time.
- Shelf-Life Extension Methods: Innovations from Saveggy and Bio2Coat Natural Preservation Technology focus on natural preservation techniques to extend the freshness of food products.
This presentation emphasized the importance of these emerging technologies in addressing current challenges in food safety and quality. Stakeholders were encouraged to engage with these innovations to foster a safer and more sustainable food system.
