The latest edition of Agro Food Industry hi-tech focuses on innovations shaping the future of food, with a highlight on the TITAN project, which is revolutionizing food supply chains through AI, blockchain, and IoT.
How TITAN is Driving Change
At its core, the TITAN project is about empowering consumers with transparent, reliable information to make better food choices while enhancing the efficiency, safety, and authenticity of food supply chains.
The project’s innovations include:
- AI-powered tools for allergen detection and supply chain traceability.
- Blockchain integration to improve data sharing and supplier verification.
- IoT solutions for real-time monitoring of food products.
- Educational tools to promote healthy eating habits among children.
Key Pilots Under Development
1. Allergen Detection in Cereal Supply Chains
This pilot leverages AI and nanotechnology to enhance food safety by detecting undeclared allergens in cereals such as wheat. With plans to expand testing to olive oil and mustard, the initiative aims to reduce sample sizes while increasing supply chain security.
2. Real-Time Supplier Verification for Honey and Herbs
Using AI and blockchain, this pilot creates an intelligent dashboard for organic honey and herb suppliers. Food buyers can perform rapid risk assessments remotely, improving decision-making and fostering trust between buyers and suppliers.
3. Interactive Nutritional Education for Children
Targeting children aged 6–12, this pilot integrates AI to develop an educational app featuring a chatbot to teach healthy eating habits. Initially launching in Spanish, the tool will expand to Poland, Finland, and Norway, with the goal of fostering lifelong nutritional awareness in young users.
TITAN addresses global food challenges, aligning with EU regulations like the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Regulation (CSDDR) and the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), which stress traceability and ethical sourcing. Coordinated by ILSI Europe, the project includes 27 partners from 14 countries, combining expertise from SMEs, universities, and research institutions to enhance food safety, sustainability, and consumer trust.
