The Founder and CEO of Tellspec, Isabel Hoffman, was interviewed by Katarina Todorovic, Editor at Delivery Rank. The article explores the cutting-edge solutions Tellspec offers, Isabel’s journey as a tech entrepreneur, and the exciting future of biophotonics and machine learning in the world of organic substance analysis.
Throughout the interview, they explore how Tellspec leverages spectroscopy and machine learning to analyze organic substances. Originally motivated by a desire for greater transparency in food safety, Isabel developed portable sensors capable of providing real-time insights into food quality, authenticity, and safety. These devices have found applications across various sectors, including food safety, pharmaceuticals, archaeology, and neonatal care. Notably, Tellspec’s technology has been used to detect counterfeit contraceptives in Africa and to help archaeologists date ancient bones.
Looking ahead, the company aims to expand its impact in underserved communities by providing affordable, lab-grade nutritional analysis tools, particularly to improve outcomes for premature infants in low-resource settings.
As part of the TITAN project, Tellspec is leading the FishTell pilot, an initiative selected through the TITAN Open Call. This pilot utilizes portable NIR spectroscopic sensors and AI-powered data analytics to accurately measure crucial parameters for fish freshness.
The objectives of the FishTell pilot include:
- Finalizing system development
- Creating the FishTell digital platform for data visualization and management
- Validating the accuracy of the portable sensors
- Piloting the system with stakeholders.
The end goal is to commercialize Fishtell in collaboartion with industry stakeholders ensuring rigorous standards and best practices across the salmon industry.
