TITAN Pilot on Carbon Credits for Almond Farming Presented at FoodRevolution 2026

TITAN was represented at FoodRevolution 2026, an international conference focused on innovation, sustainability, and digital transformation in the food sector. The event brought together researchers, companies, policymakers, and food system stakeholders to discuss emerging solutions shaping the future of agriculture and food production.

During the conference, results from partner Agri Marketplace pilot were presented, showcasing ongoing work on a digital system for carbon credits in almond farming.

The pilot explores how transparency tools can support more sustainable agricultural practices and strengthen environmental accountability across the food value chain. As part of TITAN’s work on digital transparency, this initiative combines farm-level carbon accounting with digital traceability solutions. Using methodologies based on IPCC guidelines, the system calculates the net carbon balance of almond farms and links this information to specific product batches through blockchain technology and unique digital identifiers.

Almond farming was selected for the pilot due to its long-term carbon sequestration potential as a perennial crop, as well as its suitability for comparing baseline and improved agricultural practices over time.

The presentation also highlighted the role of SMEs within the TITAN project. With 23 pilots driven primarily by small and medium-sized enterprises, TITAN aims to support commercially viable transparency solutions that can contribute to improved food safety, sustainability, and health outcomes across European food systems.

Following the progress achieved over the past three and a half years, Agri Marketplace is now preparing the next steps towards the commercial deployment of the carbon credit system. Future developments are expected to expand the approach to other crops, including olive trees, vineyards, and citrus production.

The conference provided an opportunity to share experiences from the pilot while contributing to wider discussions on digital innovation, transparency, and sustainability in the agri-food sector.
